Saint-Émilion | Bordeaux

Durante a viagem a Bordéus, aproveitámos para fazer um passeio a Saint-Émilion, uma das mais encantadoras zonas vinícolas de França, bem como vila medieval homónima. A primeira paragem foi no Château Franc Mayne, onde tivemos oportunidade de conhecer a propriedade, explorar as suas caves escavadas na rocha calcária e realizar uma prova de vinhos.

During our trip to Bordeaux, we went on to visiting Saint-Émilion, one of France's most charming wine regions, as well as the medieval village of the same name. Our first stop was at Château Franc Mayne, where we had the opportunity to tour the property, explore its cellars carved into the limestone rock, and enjoy a wine tasting.

Visitámos de seguida à belíssima vila, classificada como Património Mundial da UNESCO, com as suas ruelas de pedra, que lhe conferem uma atmosfera singular. 

Following that, we visited the beautiful village, classified as UNESCO's world heritage, with its narrow stone streets, giving it a unique atmosphere. 

Para almoçar elegemos o típico restaurante, L'Antre Deux Verres, onde degustamos uma tábua de queijos e enchidos com  um copo de vinho da região. Uma pausa perfeita!

For lunch, we opted for the typical restaurant, L'Antre Deux Verres, where we enjoyed a cheese and charcuterie board with a glass of local wine. A perfect break!

Fomos depois a Torre do Rei, que oferece uma vista deslumbrante sobre o vale e os vinhedos circundantes. Subida que não recomendo a quem tiver claustrofobia.

We then went to the King's Tower, which offers breathtaking views of the valley and surrounding vineyards. I would not recommend going up to anyone who suffers from claustrophobia.

Bordeaux | France

Elegi Bordéus para celebrar o meu aniversário e a decisão foi a mais acertada! Surpreende pelo glamour, pela beleza arquitectónica e por uma elegância discreta que se sente em cada detalhe. Entre fachadas neoclássicas, cafés que convidam a demorar e boutiques que respiram luxo francês, a cidade revela-se como uma Paris em miniatura, mais serena, mas igualmente encantadora.

I chose Bordeaux to celebrate my birthday and it was the right decision! It surprises with its glamour, architectural beauty, and discreet elegance that can be felt in every detail. Between neoclassical facades, cafés that invite you to stay, and boutiques that exude French luxury, the city reveals itself as a miniature Paris, more serene but equally charming.

Ópera Nacional de Bordéus - Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux

A Ópera Nacional de Bordéus, considerada uma das mais bonitas do mundo, foi construída no século XVIII. Possui uma belíssima fachada neoclássica coroada por estátuas de musas. No interior, o dourado e o azul-pálido criam uma atmosfera de beleza singular.

The Bordeaux National Opera House, considered one of the most beautiful in the world, was built in the 18th century. It has a beautiful neoclassical façade crowned with statues of muses. Inside, gold and pale blue create an atmosphere of unique beauty.

No coração histórico de Bordéus, ergue-se a imponente Catedral de Santo André, considerada um dos mais belos exemplos da arquitectura gótica no sudoeste francês e classificada como Património Mundial da UNESCO. A sua grandiosidade impressiona tanto pela verticalidade das torres como pela delicadeza dos vitrais que filtram a luz de forma quase etérea. 

In the historic heart of Bordeaux stands the imposing Saint Andrew's Cathedral, considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in south-western France and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its grandeur is impressive, both for the verticality of its towers and the delicacy of its stained-glass windows, which filter the light in an almost ethereal way.

We chose to stay in a very central hotel, as it is a flat city and ideal for exploring on foot. Housed in an elegant 18th century building, Le Boutique Hotel & Spa Bordeaux combines historic charm with a contemporary and intimate atmosphere.

The Wine Bar is the perfect place for a late lunch or a relaxed dinner of cheese and wine.

Para uma noite especial, escolhemos o concerto "Ode ao Romantismo", repartido em três momentos. O primeiro da compositora Mary Kouyoumdjian, numa tocante composição intitulada "Diário de um Imigrante" e os outros dois, "Concerto para Piano nº2  op. 21" de Frédéric Chopin e "Sinfonia nº1 en ré maior" de Franz Schubert. A maestrina Stefanie Childress conduziu brilhantemente a Orquestra Nacional de Bordeaux Aquitane, contando ainda com a participação especial de Abdel Rahman El Bacha ao piano. 

For a special evening, we chose the concert "Ode to Romanticism", divided into three parts. The first was by composer Mary Kouyoumdjian, in a touching composition entitled ‘Diary of an Immigrant’, and the other two were Frédéric Chopin's ‘Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 21’ and Franz Schubert's ‘Symphony No. 1 in D major’. Conductor Stefanie Childress brilliantly led the Bordeaux Aquitaine National Orchestra, with a special guest appearance by Abdel Rahman El Bacha on piano.

We had dinner at the beautiful 1925 restaurant, with a chic brasserie atmosphere and décor reminiscent of the 1920s, an elegant space perfect for a romantic dinner.

No dia do meu aniversário, comecei por um passeio pela zona do "Triangle d´Or" - triângulo de ouro, onde se encontram as principais marcas de luxo. 

On my birthday, I started with a stroll through the "Triangle d'Or"- the golden triangle, where all the major luxury brands are located.

Para o almoço, escolhermos o Les Pavillion des Boulevards, uma verdadeira referência gastronómica em Bordéus. Este restaurante, detentor de uma estrela Michelin, combina técnica e emoção em cada prato, explorando sabores franceses contemporâneos com um toque de leveza.  O ambiente, elegante e discreto, convida a uma experiência sensorial que privilegia o tempo e o prazer de estar à mesa. A cozinha, com assinatura do chef Thomas Morel, celebra os produtos locais, dos peixes frescos do Atlântico às verduras sazonais. O serviço é irrepreensível, atento e caloroso, reflectindo o melhor da hospitalidade francesa. O local perfeito para celebrar momentos especiais, onde cada detalhe é pensado para surpreender.

Le Cité du Vin proporciona uma viagem sensorial e imersiva pela cultura do vinho em todo o mundo, com especial destaque, naturalmente, para Bordéus e as suas lendárias vinhas. Instalado num edifício futurista, nas margens do rio Garonne, cuja arquitectura evoca um decanter, o espaço impressiona pela modernidade e pela forma como combina tecnologia, arte e tradição.

Fizemos igualmente um passeio a St. Emílion com visita às vinhas, degustação e passeio pela vila histórica, que destacarei noutro artigo.

Le Cité du Vin offers a sensory and immersive journey through wine culture around the world, with a special focus, of course, on Bordeaux and its legendary vineyards. Housed in a futuristic building on the banks of the Garonne River, whose architecture evokes a decanter, the space impresses with its modernity and the way it combines technology, art and tradition. 

The exhibition invites visitors to explore the history, regions and aromas that make wine a true cultural expression. At the top, the panoramic belvedere offers a 360º view of the city and the river. A must-see for anyone who wants to understand the soul of Bordeaux through its wines. We also took a trip to St. Emilion with a visit to the vineyards, wine tasting and a tour of the historic village, which I will highlight in another article.

Porte Cailhau

Porte Cailhau, com a sua arquitetura gótica-renascentista, é extremamente fotogénica, fazendo lembrar o castelo da Disney.

La Grosse Cloche

Grosse Cloche, a torre do antigo campanário, é um dos marcos mais emblemáticos do centro histórico.

Um passeio no jardim público de Bordéus é pura poesia nesta altura do ano, em que as cores outonais parecem um cartão-postal. 

A walk through Bordeaux's public garden is pure poetry at this time of year, when the autumn colours look like something out of a postcard.

Bordéus é uma cidade que não se visita apenas, vive-se, sente-se e saboreia-se, entre o aroma do café matinal e o glamour das suas ruas. Passear por aqui é descobrir um equilíbrio perfeito entre tradição e modernidade. Recomendo muito uma visita!

Bordeaux is a city that you don't just visit, you live, feel and savour, between the aroma of morning coffee and the glamour of its streets. Strolling around here is to discover a perfect balance between tradition and modernity. I highly recommend a visit!
